How to prevent Sun Damage- Rules to Apply Sunscreen Properly

We all know how harsh sun rays can damage the skin. The UV rays not only damage the top layer of skin but also penetrate through and do permanent damages in form of freckles, wrinkles and premature singes of ageing. To protect skin against the sun, using sunscreen is must no matter what season it is or what age you are. But are you using your sunscreen properly to make the most of it! Here are a few rules to apply sunscreen.

1. Use sunscreen daily. The majority of sun exposure is casual and incidental, meaning you get it walking to the subway or to get lunch or through your office window. So no matter if you are going out or if the sun is out, sunscreen should always be onn.

2. Apply sunscreen before you go into the sun
Chemical sunscreens need time to be absorbed into the skin to work. So they require a head start of about 20 minutes.

3. Always apply SPF 30 or more
At the minimum, you should be applying broad spectrum SPF 15 for protection against UVA and UVB rays. But since most wearers don’t lather on enough product, many dermatologists recommend SPF 30. Better safe than sorry. 

4. Dot sunscreen directly onto your face—instead of squeezing a giant blob onto your hands and applying it. This technique helps it absorb more quickly and evenly.

5. Focus on one area at a time
To prevent any streaking, coat a thin, even layer of sunscreen on every part of the body. Remember you need to protect your entire body and not just face. 

6. Check the expiration date
Some sunscreens have an expiration date on the bottle. In general, sunscreen loses its effectiveness after 3 

7.Reapply, reapply, reapply.
Most people go wrong because they only apply once. One must apply sunscreen every 2 hours. If sweating a lot, Reapply every 30 minutes.
